The Panorama 1453 History Museum is preparing to host the exhibition titled 'Conquest in Miniatures' by contemporary artist Nusret Çolpan. Çolpan, who follows the ancient principles of miniatures while creating his own style, presents 8 artworks with a conquest theme at the exit of the museum.
The miniatures, which were worked on by Nusret Çolpan in 1994, 1999, and 2003, depict various scenes related to the Conquest of Istanbul, including the construction of fortresses, the casting of cannons, the gathering of the army, the order of Fatih (Mehmed the Conqueror), the transportation of ships overland, and the entry into the city.
Born in 1952 in Bandırma, Nusret Çolpan studied at the Faculty of Architecture at Yıldız Technical University, where he took a course on 'Turkish Decorative Arts' from Prof. Dr. A. Süheyl Ünver and Azade Akar. Drawing on the discipline and perspective he gained in architecture, he brought a distinctive line and color to miniatures. His works show the influences of the artist Matrakçı Nasuh, who lived during the reign of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. Nusret Çolpan, who has been working on miniatures for 35 years, has approximately 300 artworks in different collections, including official structures, both in Turkey and abroad. Nusret Çolpan passed away in 2008."
